Don't Let Chapped Hands Spoil The Party

If you suffer from chapped hands when the weather gets colder then you'll know what a pain they can be .. literally!  Chapped hands can get very dry, rough, cracked and painful so you need to take care of them and protect them.  Exposure to cold temperatures, dry, warm air from indoor heating and frequent washing are the main causes of chapped, dry skin.

Get into the habit of looking after your hands regularly.  When you're outside in cold weather always wear gloves so your skin is protected from the cold.  When you wash your hands use warm water, not hot (hot water dries skin out) and pat skin dry, don't rub. After washing slather on a rich barrier cream, such as Dermalogica's Ultrarich Body Cream which shields skin from extremes of temperature and is packed with Antioxidants, Oil of Evening Primrose and Panthenol which recondition and repair skin.  Before bed you should again apply a rich cream, rub in well and, in extreme cases, put on some cotton gloves so the cream is better absorbed and not rubbed off overnight!  Do these little things regularly and your hands should soon be looking, and feeling, a lot better!

Anti Aging Hand Cream - A Habit

Make sure to keep hand cream by your kitchen and bathroom sinks.  There’s little point in applying first thing in the morning and not reapplying after washing hands as your hands will just get drier and drier as time goes on without regular application of an intensive product to keep the skin in good condition.

By having hand cream to hand(!) you will find it easier to get into the habit of automatically applying lotion after washing your hands.  Hand lotions and creams in pump action dispensers are ideal for use by sinks as you don’t even have to unscrew a cap. So, again, you can apply as often as necessary without even having to think about it!

Another good tip for people who do a lot of computer work is to keep a hand lotion or cream within easy reach as, again, it can be reapplied as necessary, and for people on the go to make sure they keep a tube in their bag at all times.  Your hands will reap the benefits immediately from regular moisturization.

Hand And Nail Healing Treatment Tips

As we age, most people focus so much on trying to prevent signs of aging from showing on their faces that they often pay little, if any, attention to what’s happening to their hands!  Hands, just as much as our faces and other areas of our bodies, need tender loving care to maintain healthy, soft skin.  Obviously, the aging process can’t be eradicated completely (dammit!) but with a little time and effort we can all make the best of what we have and maintain our looks and health as much as is humanly possible!

The chances are that even if you have a good skincare regime and regularly cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your face your hands are nowhere near as well looked after.  Hands though are one of the places on our bodies where signs of aging will show up first, as well as the neck area, so it pays to take care of them as much as you would your face.

Taking these simple and quick steps will ensure that your hands are in great condition and stay youthful looking:-

  • Exfoliate Your Hands.     When you exfoliate your face and body dead skin cells are removed, making way for softer, clearer skin, and circulation is boosted.  Do the same for your hands!  If you don’t remove the dead layer of skin on your hands, hand lotions and creams will have a hard time getting through and sinking into your skin so take a little time to exfoliate your hands at least once a week.  You’ll notice immediately that your hands feels smoother and the absorption of lotion will be boosted, making for soft, youthful looking hands.

  • Protect Hands from the Elements.     Your hands need regular protection from the elements, be it cold weather, the sun, washing up water, etc.  Skin on the hands is very thin so not giving them protection will rapidly speed up aging of the skin.  Use latex or rubber gloves when immersing hands in hot water or using harsh products, such as bleach, as this will ensure that the hot water and chemicals will be kept off your skin.  In cold winter weather make sure you wear gloves outdoors to prevent the skin on your hands from drying out and getting chapped, broken and sore.  Make sure you apply an intensive hand lotion or cream to keep the skin soft and supple.

For healing dry, rough hands, we'd recommend giving Dermalogica multivitamin hand and nail treatment a try, it's packed with essential nutrients that will keep your hands soft and supple.
